Supplemental Security Income
If an individual does not qualify for SSDI due to a lack of earnings and quarter credits, he/she may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income payments. Adults must establish income and resource eligibility and must prove disability in the same manner as in SSDI cases. Married applicants may be medically eligible, but due to income from a spouse, may not qualify. If SSI is awarded, you may also be entitled to medical benefits from your state agency.
Children may also qualify for SSI benefits, but the medical requirements for establishment of disability are different than from that of adults.
